Businessman Offers $50,000 to Anyone Who Can Get Proof of Nessie’s American Cousin Pepie

A businessman is offering a reward of $50,000 to anyone who can definitively prove that Minnesota’s Lake Pepin Monster exists. Known as Pepie, the creature is the “cousin” of Scotland’s famous Loch Ness Monster.

Pepie is said to be a big serpent-like monster that lives in Lake Pepin which is located in Lake City, Minnesota. There have been alleged sightings of the monster for at least 150 years and that includes Larry Nielson who runs a paddle wheel boat named Pearl of the Lake and who is the president of the Lake City Tourism Bureau. In an attempt to get actual proof of the creature, he is offering $50,000 for solid evidence, such as collecting a sample of its skin or fin for DNA analysis, and of course getting a great photo or video of it.

Nielson described his encounter with Pepie from a few years ago, “One night, my wife and I were out on Lake Pepin and there were no other boats out there with us.” “All of a sudden I saw a big wake out there against the current. It was about 100-feet long and foot and a half high. So I started doing some research and that’s when I heard about Pepie.”

Lake Pepin

The earliest accounts of the lake monster date back to the 1870s when the Dakota Indians ended up ditching their birch bark canoes for thicker ones in order to protect themselves from the creature in Lake Pepin that had already punctured holes in their canoes while they were out on the water.

According to cryptozoologist Chad Lewis, in addition to Pepie and Nessie being quite similar to each other, so are the lakes that they allegedly lurk in. “In terms of actual physical description, it’s almost identical to Loch Ness,” he said, adding, “Where Loch Ness is about 23 miles long and about a mile and a half wide, Lake Pepin is 22 miles long and about two miles wide. But both are surrounded by the beautiful hills. Even though Loch Ness is much, much deeper than Lake Pepin, I always state that if you were dropped out of an airplane into one or the other, you wouldn’t know which one you were in right away.”

While many people believe that a monster is lurking in Lake Pepin, not everyone is convinced. Some folks think that the creature is actually a sturgeon – a very large fish with bony plates that can live up to 100 years old and weigh as much as 200 pounds.

Several people have sent Nielson pictures of the alleged creature with one fisherman even capturing a mysterious 16-to-17-foot-long shape in a sonar image, but there needs to be actual DNA evidence which nobody has collected yet.

Anyone visiting Lake Pepin should keep their eyes open as they may catch a glimpse of the mysterious Pepie.
