Last month I wrote an article about paranormal activity that occurs every June in the United Kingdom and this month I’m doing the same on the ghosts that allegedly make appearances every July. Based on information gathered by the Paranormal Database, let’s take a look at seven of the most common ghostly appearances in the United Kingdom each July.
Since we’re getting close to the middle of the month, a few of the alleged sightings would have already occurred so we’ll take a quick look at these first. Every July 1st, a ghostly monk appears near the altar at St. Bartholomew’s Church in London, England, as well as a woman in a white dress and a man wearing Reformation-period clothes. Unexplained footsteps have also been heard.
The ghost of a man named Tristram Dillington who mysteriously died many years ago is seen every July 4th driving a coach with four horses around Knighton Gorges Manor which is near the village of Newchurch on the Isle of Wight.
After Glasshayes House in Lyndhurst, England, was turned into a hotel back in the 20th century, paranormal activity started happening and every July 7th, the spirit of the first Duc de Stacpoole throws a party with all deceased guests and the music can be heard throughout the hallways. Ghostly faces have been seen in the windows and people have felt as if someone was watching them.
The apparition of a bride who was killed on her wedding day by a former lover is seen every July 10th in the doorway to a bedroom at Whiddon Park Guest House in Chagford, Devon, England. Oddly enough, she is seen wearing all black.
The Duke of Monmouth was beheaded for treason at the Tower of London back in 1685 after a failed attempt of a rebellion against James II and now each year on July 16th his apparition can be seen wandering around the area in which he was captured. Furthermore, those who have witnessed his ghost have claimed that he was carrying his head in his hands.
Every July 27th, on the anniversary of the Battle of Killiecrankie that happened in 1689, the ground in Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland, turns a blood red color. The ghosts of English and Scottish soldiers can occasionally be seen fighting with each other while others are lying dead on the ground. Additionally paranormal activity on the battlefield includes a drifting head of a woman who was killed there in the 17th century, as well as a tall white entity that will cause someone to die within a year if they are touched by the ghost.
The spirit of a nun is said to appear at the site of Borley Rectory in Essex, England, every year on July 28th. Named the “most haunted house in England”, the rectory was demolished in 1944 but the nun is still said to haunt the grounds – specifically where the gardens were once located.
The complete database with all of the hauntings can be read here.
