A new report reveals Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic flight to near space had a red caution light on due to a trajectory problem that endangered the flight and took the ship out of its FAA approved airspace – a condition that should have force the pilots to abort the flight but instead they decided to correct it, complete the flight and land safely. Next time, Branson will probably bring black tape to cover it.

Gardeners in East Fremantle, West Australian, grew a mutant lemon weighing in at 2.6kg (5.7 pounds) and measuring longer than a forearm which a chef turned into a monster citrus and a pitcher of fresh limoncello. That’s only half the world record of 5.265 kg (11 lb 9.7 oz) but big enough to make local kangaroos think, “We’re gonna need a bigger pouch.”

A study published in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America found that males who speak less clearly or mumble tend to be more attractive to the opposite sex because women see it as a sign of masculinity, while men find precise pronunciation alluring because it signifies femininity. “Ah trold youz show!” said Sylvester Stallone.

Vladimir Solovyov, the chief engineer at the space company Energia which is the leading developer of Russia’s section of the International Space Station, says the ISS could suffer “irreparable” failures due to outdated equipment and hardware after small cracks were discovered in the oldest Russian section of the space station. A sex doll manufactured by the RealDoll company and equipped with artificial intelligence bragged to the company founder that she knows “the whole Wikipedia and a few dictionaries but I still have so much to learn.” He got so turned by her precise pronunciation of “Wikipedia” that he mumbled “Myour shlo hotz!” (See news item above.)

An international team of space scientists determined that should be able to safely travel to and from Mars, provided that the spacecraft has sufficient shielding, the round trip is shorter than approximately four years, and the flight leaves Earth when solar activity is at its peak during the solar maximum. Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars were off by a year.

NASA is testing an all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft built by California-based Joby Aviation as part of its Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) National Campaign with the goal of establishing an entirely a city-to-city flying taxi system. After what’s been happening on the ISS, don’t expect anyone to ask the driver to ‘crack’ open the window.

Wild Goffin’s cockatoos on the Tanimbar Islands in Indonesia have been observed making tools from wood and branches and using them like a knife and a spoon to access the seeds of the sea mango fruit – making them the first wild non-primate animals observed making and using tools, especially multiple tools for one task. Coming soon – “Planet of the Cockatoos”.
