China Sends Yutu 2 Rover to Investigate Mysterious Hut-like Object on the Moon

Earthrise

One common frustration among those interested in national and private space travel – especially those who believe some of our space rock neighbors are either inhabited or have secret bases — is that the missions never seem to go to inspect the strange anomalies that would prove it. That may change soon — China’s Yutu 2 rover has spotted a mysterious cube-like object on the horizon and its mission control has given the go-ahead to approach and inspect it.

“Suddenly, an obtrusive cube on the northern skyline attracted their attention. This object pierced through the winding of the skyline, like a “mysterious hut” that appeared out of thin air. There was a large “baby” impact crater beside it. Was it a home built by aliens after the crash landing? Or is it the pioneer spacecraft of the predecessors to explore the moon?”

Will they go check out the pyramid next?

Unlike other national space programs in the past, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) seems to have made no attempt to hide the discovery of this anomaly – it announced the find on the social media site Weixin. (You can see a photo of it on the site.) That post was picked up and tweeted by Andrew Jones, a journalist who covers the Chinese space program for SpaceNews and Space.com, who noted that the Yutu 2 is moving towards the “mysterious hut” located just 8- meters (260 feet) away – but will need two to three Earth months to make the seemingly short journey because the solar powered rover shuts down during the lunar night and has to drive carefully to avoid actual non-hut-looking rocks.

Which brings up the obvious question … is the “mysterious hut” just another lunar rock?

The usual suspects are suggesting the object is an obelisk, a base building, an actual hut or something else left by either extraterrestrials or humans on a secret mission. The China National Space Administration downplayed its “mysterious hut” name and refers to the many other rocks and impact craters all around Yutu 2 which could have been hit by asteroids that kicked out the “mysterious hut” rock.

“We have no way of knowing what the end of the universe is, but what is the end of the sky is still worth looking forward to in the coming months. Interested readers can wait patiently and follow up…”

Not if I can stop it first.

Even though the wait will be months, it’s nice to know that CNSA is going to investigate the anomaly and hopefully – since it has already announced it on social media – share what it is with the rest of the world. Unless … would they shut everything down if the anomaly is NOT a rock? Or would they publicize it even more – making Yutu 2 the first Earth probe to find evidence of previous visitors to or inhabitants of the Moon?

What would NASA do?
