In the world of Bigfoot research, practitioners are used to being questioned about how one can research something that hasn’t been proven to exist. In the world of Bigfoot research, one practitioner with the credentials to back him up is Dr. Jeff Meldrum, professor of anthropology and anatomy at Idaho State University, author of “Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science Apr 1, 2007,” and focal point (after Bigfoot, of course) of an episode of “The Proof Is Out There” (watch the promo here) in which he reveals all new information on the infamous 1967 Patterson–Gimlin Bigfoot film and his take on it 2021.
“I am struck as an anatomist by the massive size of these trapezius muscles and their intermediate attachment on the back of the skull. This is not a human configuration at all but something that is intermediate between a human and a great ape.”
For those who have viewed (and viewed and viewed again) the shaky grainy Patterson–Gimlin film and don’t remember seeing any massive trapezius muscles (or even know where to look for them), host Tony Harris introduces computer scientist Isaac Tian, who first explains that what you were looking at was a copy of the film – the original was mysteriously lost. To compensate, Tian took 22 different copies and used artificial intelligence and 3-D algorithms to integrate the best of all of them and then stabilized it result. The final version looks like what every wishes all Bigfoot videos looked like – clear and steady.
“There are details that are very distinctive of the way in which this ‘Patty’ creature walks. One of the characteristics that seem to distinguish the Sasquatch foot from the human is the lack of an arch, a longitudinal arch, which is kind of a springboard creating a more stable platform in the human foot.”
Referring to the creature as “Patty,” Meldrum says he can now see minute details like the feet, which he observes have no arch like a human foot would. In fact, he claims by zooming in on the sole, the plantar surface of the foot, and individual toes and toe stems, the cast of the footprint said to have been taken after the sighting is validated. He says he can now clearly see massive “trapezius muscles” (large triangular muscles extending over the back of the neck and shoulders that move the head and shoulder blade) a “butt crack” visible in the three-quarter posterior view frames, and big breasts that swing as it moves – hence the name ‘Patty’.
Hiding the butt crack?
Those are the key points Dr. Meldrum makes in the episode, which also consults some other Bigfoot researchers. After all of that, what does Dr. Meldrum conclude?
“[She] is absolutely consistent with what a bipedal hominid would look like…Sasquatch does exist.”
This writer has no qualms with the excellent detailed analysis of the new film, but feels this glosses over the fact that it is still an ‘AI enhanced’ or doctored result of copies of a crude — albeit better than most – film.
