Supernatural, Shadowy Energy Eaters: Creatures That Will Drain You Dry

Over the last couple of years I’ve come across something strange (something very strange, in fact) and that seems to be growing. It’s the issue of people reporting how they were drained of their energy, and even their life-force, in the dead of night, by supernatural creatures. Now, of course, there is nothing new about this. You only have to Google words like “Incubus,” “Succubus,” “Lilith,” and “Sleep Paralysis” to understand it all. We’re talking about vampire-like creatures that get their “food” from us. Since 2020, though, I have found myself on the end of a large, regular, number of reports of this type. Now, it’s important to note that in 2018, I wrote a book called Paranormal Parasites. Its subtitle: The Voracious Appetites of Soul-Sucking Supernatural Entities. Like so many authors and writers, I get feedback. And that has certainly been the case with my Paranormal Parasites book. But, I can say for sure that the reports I’ve been given in those last two years are massive. Why that should be I have no idea, at all. There is something something else, too, as you will see now.

(Nick Redfern) Creatures to keep away from

Prior to the last couple of years, the types of “energy eaters” that were reported to me were pretty random. In other words, someone may have reported an old hag in the bedroom. Or, someone else might have come face to face with a pale-faced Woman in Black. I’ve even had people report seeing upright lizard-type things in their bedrooms in the early hours of the morning. And so on. But, from 2020 onward, this is where things have altered and changed. I’m getting more and more cases of energy drainers in peoples’ midst, but the types of creatures reported are dwindling to pretty much just one. That one creature is what has become known as the “Hat Man.” The best way for me to describe this creature to you is like this: a shadow-like entity that almost always wears an old-style Fedora hat, a suit, and very occasionally a cloak. All of the clothing is black. You probably guessed that.

Here’s some background on the man with the hat. I’ll begin with an extract from a paper that Jason Offutt (the author of the book, Darkness Walks: The Shadow People Among Us) very generously wrote for me. In part, Jason said: “A dark figure lurks in the shadows, watching. Something about him is out of place. The Humphrey Bogart suit? The dark obscured features? Or maybe it’s the hat. Not a ball cap, not a driving cap, but a fedora. This figure looks like it stepped from a 1940s detective magazine. Then it raises a hand, or takes a step; its movements awkward, exaggerated. Something is wrong with this man – dangerously wrong. This description, of a man in an out-of-date suit wearing an out-of-date hat, is common in the paranormal field, stretching across the line of the UFO-fixated Men in Black, and the darker, more shadowy Hat Man.”

Nick Redfern: The Man with the Hat

Jason also said: “Like the Men in Black, the Hat Man has floated in the periphery of our lives for decades, observing our movements, occasionally interacting with us, but always threatening. Charles was 13 years old in 1949 and lived with his mother, brother and grandmother in San Jose, California, when the Hat Man crept into his life. He lay in bed with his brother, talking before they drifted off to sleep, when the window sash moved. ‘A dark figure dressed in a black cloak and wearing a black hat with a wide brim appeared in the window,’ Charles said. ‘No facial features were discernible on this person, but I took it to be a man.'”

This is all very fascinating. What particularly intrigues me, though, is this: why am I receiving more and more cases of the Hat Man from people who, in many cases, have never before had encounters with the Hat Man. As I said, I’m sure that part of it is because I’m a writer and people gravitate to me with their accounts. That doesn’t seem to be the complete angle, however. As I said above, I’m getting tremendous numbers of cases now. I have to admit I have no idea why this might be. What I can say, though, is that I will continue to pursue this strange situation and keep you informed.
